I am currently looking for a v8 for my 68 and I want to know if my c-4 thats behind my 200 cu. in. I-6 will work with the 302 I am trying to piece together? How much power are they rated for?

as long as the bell housing matches up, it should work okay. you may want to go with a different torque converter though. i'm pretty certain that they're different from the 200 I6 to the 289 V8.

i've seen ponies with strong 289/302's using a c4. my first '66 had a c4 and it could handle the hp very nicely.

c4's are graded by application, 6cyl or 8cyl 2v/4v. The bands and clutch packs are weaker on the 6 than the 8. You can just drive it till it breaks though and then get a v8 c4. Make sure the little arm on the tranny you shop for points up for floor shifter hook up. Column shift tranny arms point down.

So it should bolt up to the block. Also couldn't i do a performance rebuild to handle the power of the V8.

Yes, c4s will handle the power and torque of a smallblock without a problem. you may wish to put in some performance parts and such, but you do not need the added weight of a c-6
