Windshield Wipers

I cant seem to get the winshield wiper arms off. The left winshield wiper works but the right doesnt so i looked at it and the arm inside the car is not connected to the post on the round thing that spins. The right arm inside thats not connected is not long enough to reach the post, and when i pull on it,the arm on the outside is all the way on top of the hood so i thought maybe there would be teeth that the arm on the outside is connected to and i could just take it off and rotate it so it would be in the right spot and allow the arm inside to reach the post. is that right? any other ideas as to fixing this problem would be very helpful. Thanks again

The outside arm is pushed on the splined knob at the cowl. To remove get a pad, wadded up rag, small wood, rubber squeezey, and use it so you don't mark [scratch] the paint at the cowl.

Put your protector there and take a medium to larger screwdriver and pry up on the metal cap that is down on the splined know. Just catch the edge, cause the metal is very thin, and if you try and pry on a larger piece you will be prying on the knob itself. You should pry at a point oposite the arm itself. The spring tension holds the arm on the knob.

It should come right off.
