Is this an automatic or standard, both sets of lights come from the same source, but the circuitry differs with the automatic and the manual transmissions. The following webpage has both schmatics.

If it's the 5 speed, then it might be the rev sensor that sits on top of the trans too.

What plug is this " tested the plug and no juice" you refer to ? Is there no power at any of the rear lamp clusters ? Are the no. plate lights working ?

P.s
Cant see how the rev / speed sensor on the box would cause this , though always glad to learn something new.

Just a thought , if they are double filament bulbs as they are in the cars over here , did you test both filaments ? Have you tried bridging the reverse light switch in case you have two seperate faults ?

I think he's referring to the park-neutral switch

Re: '05 focus zx3 lost tail lights and reverse light

No IIRC, there is a rev switch on the trans that triggers the rev lights, But as R.S said, it would be smarter to start with the easy things, break out the voltage meter, and start testing at the back.

I know sometime, the wire's in the boot for the hatch often get frayed and messed up, causing all sorts of troubles with rear lights.

Re: '05 focus zx3 lost tail lights and reverse light

I wrongly assumed Dj's " rev switch " as in rev counter and thought he was meaning the speed sensor on the transmission . I see now he meant the reverse light switch on the box which could be a possible fault and is easily tested by bridging out . As also suggested by him , the wires on the hatch are a common fault for breaking under the rubber sheath where they pass through into the tailgate .Good shout ,certainly worth checking for any breaks / shorting .

We only have that fitted to automatics over here , not on the manual boxes .May be different in the cars over in the States as there are often variations .
