'07 Focus Poor Gas mileage

2007 Ford Focus SES 2.0 auto, 9k miles with Amsoil. I drive it very conservative, and still only get 25 mpg. Recently the car was in the shop and the loner car was the same car but SE model with 3k on it. I noticed the gas mileage was better but not for sure how much? I checked it a total of 3 times, and found it to be " 38 " MPG. I checked the build dates of both cars, mine was built in November '06 and the loner car was built in May '07. What could be the difference of these two units?

Re: '07 Focus Poor Gas mileage

First thing is payload. Do you just drive with yourself and NOTHING in the trunk or back seat. Eer 50lbs of weight you'll lose .5-1mpg on the imperial cycle. As no two engines are 100% equal, and as your vehicle should still be under warranty you can tell FORD to see if there are any recalls or TSB's (technical service bulletins) about remapping the computer for better mileage. Generally, most will stay away from a new computer download as they're known for lowering fuel economy, but as your mpg sucks already there shouldn't be any harm in it. If you can prove that the car is getting a lot less than the advertised EPA contact Ford directly and see what they have to say.

Do keep in mind your driving style. A lot of people get 'normal' and 'slightly aggressive' driving confused! If your easy with the pedals, both accelerating and braking you should get decent mileage.
