160 kW Focus ST (V6)

New ST Focus is supposedly (according to Auto Express) going to have the Mondeo Zetec S, 2.5L V6 engine but with 160 kW (217 bhp)

"The current ST170 is a little understated. The next version will be more of a performance model."

Now it just needs AWD.

Re: 160 kW Focus ST (V6)

I'll believe that when it actually starts up in front of me and somebody opens the bonnet. As for AWD, don't waste it on the V6 ST (if it exists...) save that for the 2.3 Turbo Cosworth

Re: 160 kW Focus ST (V6)

A V6 Zetec? Not likely! Try the variable timing Duratec head instead - even the base model Fiesta gets that here now.

I echo Zetec's sentiments but a higher power output is always welcome!

Who said it was a zetec engine, Zetec S is the model name of that particular mondeo not the type of engine. All Mondeo petrol engines are Duratecs.

Re: 160 kW Focus ST (V6)

Not true, I owned a Mondeo with a Zetec 2.0 Litre four in it. As with the Focus, the Mondeo range has used both engines.

If the brand new range of Mondeos only has Duratec heads (like the Fiesta), then why name it something less superior - it's as stupid as the Fiesta Zetec which has the Duratec head. It's like calling a BA GT Falcon a Cleveland.

Either way, they should stick with the term ST or something newer - not Zetec which is a name of an older engine head.

Get with the programme man, I'm talking about the current mondeo range (why would you even bring up something about old, discontinued models, its irrelevant)

Maybe you should speak to someone at Ford GB Headquarters about your issues with the model names

Re: 160 kW Focus ST (V6)

Two things in reply - one) the 'current' model is not sold here in Australia where most of us are from, and all Mondeos previously have had Zetec engines as well, so don't get all upset over us not knowing what engine range is in the car. I even made special mention that the current range could only have Duratec heads like the Fiesta range but I was not sure if you were talking about the latest range or all of them as you didn't specify - so don't get upset, you seem to know more on the issue than I do, breathe, it's only a forum.

And two) That is my opinion on the naming issue, simple and end of story there. This is an open forum and I am inviting discussion on the cars in all aspects, including names. End of story. If you have any further issues please PM me, otherwise let's keep this thread on topic.

Re: 160 kW Focus ST (V6)

Firstly, I'm not upset, I don't have any issues & your the one that wen't off on a tangent.

Secondly, back to topic, there is also talk that the ST Focus could get a 2.4L Volvo engine. I personally would prefer to see the 2.5L V6.
There is also pics in UK Autocar of the ST testing at the Nurburgring.
