2000 Focus airbags replacement

I am considering the purchase of a 2000 Ford Focus ZX3 Hatchback 2D, black. Decent shape. 110,000 miles. Not sure if the automatic transmission fluid has ever been changed. Is this a big issue? Also, the airbags were deployed. I called Ford and they said this is a 2-3K repair requiring full air bag replacement as well as other parts. Has anybody ever replaced the airbags? Is it a do-able job, or not worth the trouble?

You can replace both Air bags, but more than likely, you will also have to replace and reprogram the Restraint Control Module (RCM) and the seatbelt buckles since they may have deployed also.

Re: 2000 Focus airbags replacement

Thanks for the reply Mullet Man. I actually did an internet search and found that the premature air bag deployment is a common issue with the Focus. I have decided not to buy the car. I still own a 94 Aerostar van. It has been thru a couple of minor accidents with no airbag deployment. The Aerostar has 170K miles on it and has been a really reliable vehicle. Very few repairs.
