2000 Focus Fuel Pump Problem

I have a 2000 Focus and it started having some problems starting, then it would turn over but not start. Our local Ford dealership said they run a diagnostic test and it came back the air bypass valve which controls they idle, well I never had an idle problem, it acted like it was starved for fuel, which if the fuel pump is bad ford will replace it(ford will not call it a recall, just that there is a problem and they will replace them "ONLY" after it is checked out, then they can charge you if it is not the fuel pump) I had it back 2 days and had to be towed home due to cutting out on the highway, it did die several times and finally quit running. It did start after it cooled down. I was wondering if anyone has had a problem with an air bypass that has caused it to act this way.

Re: 2000 Focus Fuel Pump Problem

I'd be very surprised if the IAC valve would cause cutting out when accelerating, it does sound like failure of a major component like the fuel pump etc. There was a recall/bulletin a while back now, depends what country you're in, that relates to the fuel pump relay and/or wiring, best to get it checked out.

If there is a recall on the fuel pump, then it needs replaced if the customers complain of the symptoms! Ford better replace that pump.

I can only speak from a UK point of view, this rework as far as I know only applied to RHD vehicles, and just to the relay not the pump.
