Hello! I have a 2005 ZX4 that I bought brand new in February. Within a
month it began having a strange ignition issue. From a cold start,
when I turn the key, it takes about 5 seconds of whining for it to
start. Anytime after that it will start immediately with no
hesitation. I took it into Ford, and they said there was nothing
wrong. It has been doing the same thing for a few months but I couldnt
take it in due to having school to go to every day.

I took it back in a week ago for the same thing. It’s embarassing for
a new car to be creating such a ruckus when trying to start up. I told
them to not call me until it was fixed for good. They never called me.
I called them to check on my car and they say they can’t find anything
wrong and that they have checked everything.

Anyone have any ideas? I am starting to seriously regret trading in my
perfectly good 2001 Focus for this new one.

Sounds like the fuel system eventually gets drained, due to a faulty check
valve, and the fuel pump must fill upp the complete fuel system after long
periods of inactivity.

You're very clear about the problem and that's not the way they work. Take
it to another dealership.

With all fuel injected cars today combined with the emission controls you
switch the ignition on WAIT a couple of seconds and then start the car. You
very likely have a slow bleed down on the fuel line and the pump has to
pressure up to the correct fuel line pressure and the map sensors etc have
to set the computer.
This is only going to get worse with the more requirements for emissions
lowering.
Of course it could be also this is the same crap car that ford made in 1999
and still has the same high level of non quality that the had back then.

Thanks for the suggestion. I got my car back today and it is still
doing the same thing. I will try what you suggested.
