Re: 2008 Windshield Freeze
I haven't heard of this problem, and I know a couple focus owners. I'd run the car for a while until it's warm, then drive a few more miles with the defrost on, and the fan on high. Take it to a shop (park it with the engine running), and ask them to check the defrost temperature to make sure it gets hot enough. Also, don't spend more than $5 on wipers, the $5 steel blades or $8 winter blades are all you need to clear the windshield. A lot of people see the ads for the flat blades that 'hug' the windshield, but they're no good at clearing heavy snow. If someone says they are good at clearing 'heavy' snow, then obviously they've never driven in heavy snow! The area I drive to generally gets 15-36" of snow in as little as 24hours.
Also, heavy snow will affect visibility no matter what you do. In a lot of cases when I drive up to visit relatives in northern Canada, I'll have to pull over every 30-40km just to clean the snow and ice off of my WINTER blades! It's annoying, but it has to be done. I choose to drive in crappy weather, so I pay the price for it by having to stop more often and clear things off.
