Just had one fitted, and my computer re-set. Right now it behaves like it did when it was new (looks like it is learning things again!). I must admit the power comes on early and gives you a really big kick off the lights, but lacks a certain something mid to high in the revs. I'll wait a couple of weeks for things to settle and see if it really is worth the $580.00 price tag. I've noticed that there is no point opening the thing to full throttle, as it seems to like it at about 75%. Sounds strange I know, but maybe that has something to do with the fact that the MAF is now dealing with greater air flow.
Stay tuned!

Are you still running the stock airbox and MAF housing? If so, then the MAF isn't the cause of the problem, as the system will be correctly measuring the airflow thru that, no matter how open the T/B is, it can't get any more air than what the MAF is measuring.
I wonder if the TPS is causing fuel/air mixture issues above a certain level... what other mods are you running?
Tim!

OK, 3,000km later things haven't changed that much. The car seems to be suffering fuel starvation after about 4,000rpm. I've got it booked for a test drive with the tech and we are going to screw on a fuel pressure guage to eliminate it (or pin point the cause). As for what I've done so far, it's been very mild. K&N Air filter, Herrod Springs, Herrod Sports Muffler, 17" allloys, Body Kit, Clear ST side flashers, Sentry Tint, and the 65mm T/B.
I know of an upgrade to the Software that is due soon that is supposed to address the surging and flatspot issues that all zetecs suffer from.
After the drive to QLD and Back, I'm not so sure the 65mm T/B was such a good idea. I think it is something that should be done if you are considering major mods like cams, turbo kits, ect. I'll admit that it didn't effect my fuel consuption at all! I got 7.0L/100km average consumtion and my average speed was between 120-125km/h for the whole trip (1,280km in 10:30 driving with 01:45 rest & refuel) ps: don't tell the HWP.
more to follow after the road test with Dave ( the tech ).........

Just added a custom made "cold air intake system," which grabs the air from right up front just under the bonnet line on the passenger side. Big enough mouth to feed the induction system, and as the story goes, this + that + a little bit of other, I'm slowly beginning to enjoy this ride!! The throttle body likes the extra air it's getting from the open mouth intake and it's really noticable now mid range in the revs. I'm still getting a fuel starve problem after about 4,500rpm, but that's a seperate issue we are looking to fix. A dyno run right about now is on the cards before I do anything else!
stay tuned......

I think one option for you would be to go bigger than your stock injectors and re-cali ur MAFS. Do a search on th Jet there is heaps on info on this subject.
Thanks for the tips Resty, I'm not sure about the injectors yet as we have struck a problem with fuel delivery as it sits now. When that is sorted, (tank's commin' out next week) I'll keep adding and chipping away at the things that stop it from going FAST At the end of the day, I'm not looking for wild, but more fiesty I think. Who knows, If I get really addicted...........

I am with Resty on this one, fuel starvation problems point to either injectors or computer, but the stock injectors can easily supply enough fuel at this mild level of modification, so assuming the fuel system is operating correctly, I'd be looking at how the computer is interacting with the MAF and TPS.

Oh, and you might already know this, but the fuel system in the Focus is more unqiue than most in that it runs a returnless fuel system. This means you can't just increase overall fuel pressure, the computer measures the fuel pressure using a transducer on the fuel rail and should be adjusting itself to maintain a certain pressure, so once again you'll have to attack the computer to increase fuel pressure.
Hope that helps...
