Adding A/C to a 2003 Focus - Ford Forums - Mustang Forum, Ford Trucks, Ford Focus and Ford Cars

So seems I always ask the questions that are hard to answer but here goes!
I have a 2003 Focus with no A/C but noticed while working on it that it has all the wires for the compressor, high pressure, low pressure switches and the A/C mounting bracket so wondered if anyone has tackled the job of adding A/C to a car? The parts are not an issue as I have a junk yard mate to the car with all the A/C parts but was wondering if there was a snag involved in the process or perhaps something to watch out for or something not to forget!

Does it have the condenser and evaporator?

No they are not there but the rad has the mounts for the condenser already on it. I thought that someone might have removed the A/c but it has never been installed only wired for it. This was the only Focus I had worked on that did not have A/C so I was unsure if this was typical.

Well, chances are you'll have the holes for the lines cut into the firewall already but you'll have to rip the dash apart to install the evap and condenser. If I did it, it'd take me two weeks working every evening at it for at least 2-3 hours.

Well decided to go ahead and have a go at it! It was almost fun, took 6 hours to remove the parts from the parts car, remove the non ac parts from the other car and install the parts, and recharge. I will trouble shoot tomorrow if needed but looks good so far (forgot to get a belt for AC) I could not test it.

Seems Ford made this one to accept AC so it went well.

I know the *ahem* Hyundai guys, if you don't order A/C, the dealer charges $1400 or so to install it in Canada at least. 25% greater of what it costs when you order an A/C package with other equipment!
