mad Annoying seat belt minder!

Does anybody have a quick and easy way to disable the annoying seat belt minder? im sick of it beeping its head off every time i turn on the ignition. does it have its own seperate little speaker i can disconnect? its probably one of the only things i don't like about my zetec.

Re: Annoying seat belt minder!

I know what you mean, it can be very annoying. I do recall asking someone about this before on a different car and was told it is illegal to remove/disconnect it.

That was second hand information though, I wonder if out of the 50 or so fuses in the car, if one is unique to that system....

Tim.

Re: Annoying seat belt minder!

The best way to defuse it is to put the belt on before you start the car!!! haha

But seriously, it is very annoying.

Thumbs down Re: Annoying seat belt minder!

Well.... go check this out and if anyone can actually make it work then I'd like to hear about it.

http://www.focusfanatics.com/howtos/seatbelt/

I have tried it, from memory I gave it like 6 or 7 goes and none worked, even though the lights flashed just as expected, none of the sounds stopped. Otherwise, post on Focusfanatics and see if someone in Europe knows how to do it.

It's basically made for the blody americans who will sue at the slightest possibility of getting money for something and thus all the cars are now setup to annoy you into submission to save you from suing them. The reason why Ford won't change the engine computer for you to put out 115kw in a Zetec so it isn't liable for warranty claims, is just the same reason why they won't legally change the seatbelt minder so you can't sue them for being a stupid prick.

So many have given criticism to the car and I have to agree with you Kymera, it is really gay and unnecessary. I'm not American.

Re: Annoying seat belt minder!

i've also tried that method you linked....a little while ago...and also for me the lights flashed as they should but te stupid beeping never stopped. i am wonderig though where the speaker is for the beeping....surely you could just cut the wires? so that the car thinks it beeping....but really isn't. any thoughts?

Re: Annoying seat belt minder!

Hmm, I'd be a bit hesitant to cut wires, mainly for a few reasons, like continuity tests or impedance difference caused by the change.

The computer may think part of its system has failed and therefore be affected in another way.

Replace it with a 4 ohm resistor though....might work to keep the system thinking the 'load' is there and working.

LOL.

Cheers...Tim

If you cut the wires, you'll be a real fool! That warning speaker is not just for the seatbelt minder, but also your healight reminder, your turn indicators, and any other warning signals that the engine management system is designed to give. In the event of a system failure as a result of your modifications, you will have deemed all warranties relating to that component VIOD. Also, should you have an accident, you may be in trouble with insurance companies if they find out that you have disabled a system required and approved by ADR authorities, and there are injuries involved.
My advice is to leave it alone, and learn to live with it. It doesn't last long anyway.
