Brake lights on my 2003 - Ford Forums - Mustang Forum, Ford Trucks, Ford Focus and Ford Cars

So have a 2003 Focus wagon with auto trans and the brake lights work proper when in park but as soon as you put it in gear they stay on. Any ideas before I dig in?

You'll just have to dig in. It may be the wires to the switch are being pulled by the linkage and making them stay on. Keep us informed as to what you find.

Unless it's different for an auto trans and the European cars , the light switch was at pedal carrier and adjustable . If not wiring as suggested by Bert ,try giving it more clearance at pedal .

Should have know Bert, been down this road before!!! After some general testing and checking I traced it back to the wiring harness between the body and hatch. Every time I have had problems on various cars with strange ghosts it leads me right to that harness where I find a hand full of damaged broken or touching wire feeding back to god knows where. Repaired the wire and all is good again, next time I will just start there when electrical issues creep up.
