Carbon Fiber Muffler Ford Focus 2004 Please Help!

Bought a carbon fiber muffler and it's universal. I go to call Midas and I ask how much it would be for installation and they tell me they can't do it because I would have to replace the whole exaust or something? They basically said I can't slap on a universal carbon fiber muffler. Is this true and why? Can't I just shop off the giant looking lunch box and weld it on there with no problem?

Re: Carbon Fiber Muffler Ford Focus 2004 Please Help!

A lot of newer systems aren't welded on, which is a shame. Usually, if you buy a cat-back system, it comes in a few sections and it all bolts together. This is why a lot of companies offer simple marketing such as "the hardest part of the installation is getting your old exhaust system off". For the average homeowners who decides to do the job himself, it would take a lot of time to saw through an exhaust by hand unless he has a cutting torch to do the job. I'm not familiar with carbon fiber mufflers, so Midas might be right in the sense that they can't weld it, but if the tube diameter is the same, a bolt on clamp should do the trick.
