Charged ac - escaped out of the low port

Charged my AC using Quest Sub Zero R134A. When I hooked up the can there was no pressure on the line. Compressor kicked on and off like it should to protect itself. When the pressure got high enough, it stayed on. Charged to the proper amount and measured the car temp at the vents at 60. So far so good.
After 15 minutes from start to finish, I removed the fitting on the Sub Zero from the low port. When I did, the R134A discharged back out of the port.
Not sure why. Anyone have any thoughts on where I when wrong? Any advice would be appreciated as this was my first attempt at charging a car AC.
