So always the tough questions! I have a 2000 Focus 2.0 SOHC that has a code P1400. Can't seem to track it down, checked and changed EGR valve, tried another DPF, looked for leaks and everything common to the problem but still the code returns on second fault.
Any ideas what to check next? Is it possible for the fault to be in the ECM?
Need ideas.

My first thought but tried a spare as well as one off another car that is working fine, no luck with that!

Are the tubes to the DPFE open? There are restrictions but they should let the exhaust flow out if unhooked from the DPFE.

No replaced them when I changed EGR valve and cleaned the steel transfer tube when apart. They were in bad shape as they were bad as usual and thought that this the beginning of all problems but have changed EGR, DPFE, DPFE pressure hoses (both) new gaskets at EGR and Exhaust manifold connection and cleaned transfer tube so at a loss for ideas!

If you run it with the hoses off, you get exhaust out of both hoses? More in one than the other?

Yes both have clear passage.

You'll have to check the ground and signal power to the DPFE. At the black/yellow wire you should get .9 - 1.1V key on engine off. At aprox. 55 MPH you should have between .9 and 4.5 V.

Thanks for the tips Bert, found the issue yet again in the wiring but not Fords fault this time! The car had on a previous occasion had the DPFE changed to the newer style so the wiring to it had been spliced but poorly and was making a bad connection with the rain, snow and salt. Soldered the connections and all seems to be fine at least for now.
