The recalls are only on the US spec cars because they're built in Mexico or Michigan and Not in Germany. I'm unsure of recalls on European Foci beyond a minor electrical fault in the mid 1999 spec MKI Focus which was caused by the alternator cap. I was said to possibly mke the dash lights malfunction, but was not a safety issue.
Thanks GOD the Focus we get in Oz is the MKII German build, which is double insurance (firstly being built in Germany over the US or Mexico makes it 5000 times more desirable!!!) and MKII cars naturally are released with revisions to the issues discovered in the previous version's lifetime. So far the MKII is flawless more or less. Following quote taken from http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/2402217.stm
"Ford has recalled almost 600,000 Focus cars due to potential safety problems.
The 572,795 Focus cars in question were released in 2000 and 2001, most of them in the US but some have been sold in Canada, Mexico and a number of other countries.
Following the latest recall, Ford has issued 11 safety recalls for the Focus since it was launched in 1999. "
As yet, no bad news for Aussie Foci almost 12 months into production!!!!
