Door ajar and trunk light for 02 Focus

I have having some electric issues. My door ajar light goes on when the doors are all closed and I touch the brake. The trunk light stays on except when I touch the brake.
I just replaced fuse to the brake light, which fixed the brake lights, but the door ajar and trunk light issues continue.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Check the wiring bundle running into the trunk lid from the trunk. With all the openings/closings the insulation around all the wires fails and causes shorts. All I did was strip the insulation and crimp the connections back together. It fixed all the problems you're talking about!

Wow, thanks for the tip. I spent hours troubleshooting the issue and couldn't figure it out. I went in the trunk and opened and closed the trunk and got intermittent results. Took everything apart except the wire dongle on the left-hand side, then I read your post.

So for those of you with this issue, you need to remove the rubber boot from the dongle that enters the trunk. Pull it back and with a sharp knife cut along the remaining insulation vertically. Just the top portion should suffice. You should find around 6 wires with broken insulation at the same point. I wrapped each wire with electrical tape and put everything back together. All good now.

The symptoms are your middle break light touches the trunk light which causes break light fuse to short and door ajar light stays on until break is depressed.
