My '02 Focus with the 2.0 4V has only 1 engine code showing when I scan it....P0442 Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (small leak)- Anyone out there ever get this one and can you tell me what you found to be the culprit? I have looked over all the EVAP tubing and cannot locate any obvious cracks, or leaks that are otherwise open to atmosphere.

The car has had this stalling, sputtering issue several times before...I drive the car into town and it is running along just fine- then I stop at the store for just a few minutes- come back out and the things runs like crap; like its firing on 1 or 2 cylinders!

If I give it about an hour or so to cool down...it starts right up and runs fine.

HELP!!! Any ideas would be appreciated or if you have had the same problem..let me know what you found.

The small leak is hard to find without special equipment. I'd start with checking the gas cap. My Crown Vic had that dode and I found something that looked like a piece of hair on the seal. I cleaned the seal and haven't had it come back for 3 years now. As for the running problem, I'd start with cleanng the MAF with MAF cleaner. See if that helps.
