is a escort and a focus motor the same?

I have a 2002 ford focus with a 2.0 L SOHC motor. I am having a hard time finding a new used engine for under $1600 but I have a ford escort with a 2.0 L SOHC motor. And I was wondering if it is possible to put it in to my focus, if so what are the changes that need to be made? I know that the part numbers do not come up as the same. I am looking for someone to answer this who actually knows the answer, not some fumbling idiot who pretends to be a mechanic!

much appreciated,

dmiesel

Re: is a escort and a focus motor the same?

im going to take a stab at it and guess that yes its the same motor. the easiest way to find out for sure if pop the hood on the focus and the escort. they both should be the 2.0 split port injection motors. if not then the focus is a zetec and the escort is a spi. you could swap the motors but it would be a time consuming event. at minimum you would need a computer to make the engine run.

good luck
your fumbling idiot mechanic

All SOHC 2.0 Focuses were the SPI motor, and the part number for the short block is the same. Should bolt right in.

I have an 02 Focus. Curious -- why do you need an engine swap?

So the short block is the same, head is different for sure but need more interchange info! What year escort 2.0SOHC will interchange, 1997 and up I am thinking but can you confirm this?
Thanks
