i recently bought a st170 and the previous owner had an exhaust fitted (powerflow) its too loud for my liking and i was wondering what the best / cheapest way to reduce the noise would be. thanks in advance

Best way would be to replace everything with stock components. It's possible you could find the parts used, from people modding their own exhaust and selling the stock parts.

Cheapest? I dunno...Stuff a bunch of old socks up the exhaust pipe?

my best guess would be to try and get a resonator or another muffler installed in the system. if you go back to stock you may loose some power. i know on the focus most exhaust systems net 10fwhp. a resonator matched to the same diameter of piping that was used in the aftermarket exhaust probably will not give you a loss in power.
