Focus 07,2.0 air intake modifications

I have been looking at the air intake and have noticed how the MAF sensor is located beneath the airfilter box. It seems like with this located before the filter that the engine would assume that it is receiving more air that it really is. The MAF sends info to the engine about how much air is coming its way and then the air would be constricted due to it going through the filter and the engine not receiving the signaled amount. Would'nt it make more sense to have the MAF sensor located between the engine and the air filter, with this the engine would get a more precise reading and be more efficient as in emissions and gas mileage?

No. The MAF can't be located behind the air filter as a lot of owners neglect to clean or replace the air filter which would give false readings to the MAF leading to very poor mileage, and emissions. As smart as cars are becoming, they can't help with human negligence. Well, at least not yet anyway....
