Read Focus Accident

On Sunday, our Ford convoy was heading out to the SuperNats when a car pulled out in front of the Fairlane in front of me.

The Fairlane braked, I braked, and so did the Falcon behind me, only he locked up and went straight into my car. Almost worse that he is a mate, as now we're trying to find the cheapest way to repair the damage.

Basically, the collision wouldn't have been more than 10kmh, but it was enough to scratch the bar, destroy some of the clips that hold the bar to the Rio (composite re inforcement thing) and crush the Rio, misaligning the bar.

I have been quoted 8-900 bucks by a panel beater to supply, paint, and fit the bar. I am going to hunt around for a cheaper option to try to save my friend money, but it's not cheap.

Lesson learned: when you have an accident, choose someone you don't know, that has insurance.

Tim. (no cheers tonight)

i swear that Focus club meeting (all 2 of us) jinxed us Tim!!! As you know the next day (Sunday morning) my Focus Zetec (the silver one in the pics) developed a lumpy idel, rough exhaust and started coughing a bit on acceleration. Guess it was pining for your car or sufferin by proxy or something. Proof these little cars really do have a soul!!!! Fritz (don't ask!!!) is in for a service so he'll be good as new in next to no time.

Re: Focus Accident

A 2003 Focus rear bumper from Ford was quoted to me as $658.15. Damn expensive for so little. I've sorted the repairs all out now, just have to wait to get it done.

Not suprising, on an imported German car though.

Hope your Focus comes good Matt!

Cheers.... Tim

Re: Focus Accident

$658.15 from Ford, I find that to be quite resonable compared to some Bumper's these day's,especially if it's a genuine one from Ford as well, but that's the price you pay for new car's these day's,just don't go with a non genuine one when I had a accident they replaced the back bumper with a aftermarket one(cost cutting) and in the 1st week when I filled up with petrol I spilled a little bit on the bumper and it started to take away the colour and stain,so after many abusive phonecall's to my insurerer I got a genuine one and no prob's,cheer's.

Just some good news, Fritz is up and running again!!! I put him in for a service at Dominelli Ford and got the 15,000km service, got a rattle fixed and then got them to fix my problem. Turned out the driver's side engine mount was stuffed, faulty and something must have set it off, so that explained very well (i'd almost say it's a textbook case) the lumpy idel, vibrating engine, off sounding exhaust and rattling dash!!!!! So that was warranty repaired after 6 months of ownership no worries.

Then I got them to install the latest engine management upgrade to the computer, not that it does much but keeping it up to date can't hurt I guess. Even if it makes an unnoticeable gain, must have been done for a reason!!!

To top it all off, they washed if at the end of the service. So now it's as tight as a drum, rattle free, purring like a kitten and just an absolute dream to drive. Amazing how loose just 13,600km made it feel!!!!!

I am SERIOUSLY recommending Dominelli Ford Service in Sutherland, Sydney. They were really informative, friendly, a pleasure to deal with and performed a no nonsense, top notch service on my car. They rang me 3 times to let me know what was going on (in 2 days!!!) after I called them to find out when it'd be ready and they weren't sure at first. Mind you, I did dump it on them unannounced and not booked in at 7:30am Monday morning before uni then caught the train for 2 days which i usually do anyway. By Tuesday arvo it was done, when they had only started on it Tuesday morning!!! Major service and repairs and all that in just one day. To top it off, only cost $180 which in my mind is pretty worth it considering how at ease I feel knowing that it feels so darn tight, so clean and I know I've been given a quick, friendly service. If you don't go there you're doing yourself and your car an injustice.

too right mate, it's awesome stuff. Feels like a new car again, even though it wasn't bad before, it's just that little bit stiffer and more solid in gearshift, brakes and smoothness. Love it

Thank your lucky stars you don't own a honda or an astra, then you would really know about expensive 10km/h hits can be!
