Who chooses the engines that go into our FOCI ?
I was reading an article in Car and Driver.
Yanks get the 2.3 145bhp, as standard in 6 States and optional elsewhere.
The base model gets the 2.0 engine as standard. No 1.8. The SVT gets a 170bhp engine. Why doesn't Aus get the 2.3 as an option ? If Aus got the 2.3 as standard, it would sell. Maybe Mr Gorman needs to rethink Aus engines, if he wants the car to sell.
Car and Driver state " Our favorite Foci continue to be the SVT versions, with their sport tuned suspensions and 170bhp engines. But even the humblest hasn't forgotten how to have fun."

Our focus' come from Europe where the ones in the states from from Mexico, which is why they have totally different engines.

The Euro focus' only have the 1.8/2.0/1.4/TDi etc etc not the 2.3

I'd take the Aussie/Euro Foci even with their 1.8 over the US Foci anyday. But the next model will almost 200% definitely be standard with the 2.0 and optional with the 2.3 just like the Mazda 3 (Focus in drag)

I thought that ford did away with their parts swapping relationship with mazda after the demise of the laser/323. The more things change......

Even the new Volvo S40 share the same platform as the Mazda 3 and future Focus.

It's not a bad thing either. Ford Motor Company can thus pump more money into a platform and engine/drivetrain components because the cost is offset by sales in 3 different brands/models. End up cheaper to produce a better platform, gives us a better car for the same money as 10 years ago. Works for me!!!
