Focus Hood Latch

The hood latch on our 2002 Focus does not pull back the cable after release. The latch stays open so I used a screw driver to move it so the hood would close. I sprayed W-D40 all over and did not help. I was pokeing around the mechanism with a screw driver an a spring popped out and now the safty catch won't work. I have called the local Ford Dealer and was asked if it was an anti theft latch or not. There is a plunger switch on it and a wire goining into the bottom of it as I can see. Is that for a hood light or the anti theft device? Has anyone had this problem? Is it a spring or a corroded cable. This part has a crazy price attached to it so if I can fix it I would rather.
Thanks

Re: Focus Hood Latch

Probably best to change it out. I still don't know if it is an anti theft one though. I will search the wreckers because I was quoted $170.00 new.
Thanks.

Re: Focus Hood Latch

$170 new is cheap. A co worker of mine had a problem where the trunk was closed too hard and the lock wouldn't function so she had to go in through the trunk pass through to open it up. New lock installed with labour at the Ford dealer - $282.00 CDN
