in my opinion the laser sr2 was a neat car my sister bought one and i think it had more apeal then the focus, which i think other furom users might agree, why not keep this lil aussie car in the works, and reintroduce a fwd turbo tx3 into the range, the focus doesnt seem to fit in frod OZs line of cars, and im sure the laser could have been reinvented by ford and even FPV, wouldnt be nice a 4wd laser turb running 13s :D give those rexies someting to think about ha

Not a chance of that happening, and I have to say the Focus is a more appealing car than the Laser ever was. I have owned/driven both. That's not to say the Laser was a bad car as it was always rated as one of the best.
The Focus actually fits in nicely within the lineup with looks that are refreshing compared to other cars in this segment.
The ST170 is the hero car and hopefully will fill the void left by the TX3. Although the RS would be very appealing, it will probably never make it here. :(

Just read in the latest Wheels, an interview with (damn i hate this, forgot his name) from PRODRIVE.
They expect to have a FPV variant of evey model that Ford sell here. So expect a FPV Focus sometime

As long has the 2004 focus keeps its dynamic and different (in a good way) styling, then combined with the new Mazda MZR engines (2.0L 110kw) engine.........I think focus will kick some real sales goals

The only issues the focus has right now is pricing and brand recognition. As a vehicle it is a far better package than the Laser was, they just have to work on getting consumers to accept the thing.

I think you are confusing the first 2-3 models of Lasers that were built here (from Mazda kits) with the later imports (rebadged Mazdas). Ford Australia has had little or no say in the Laser mechanicals since very early 1990s & the orgin of the vehicle has probably limited Tickford & FPV involvment.
