Here's some more info on the European ST170 faults I was talking about (the link is : http://www.stownersclub.com/6/ubb.x?...1&m=5876043731 ,but you may to register to view it)

"Hello mate, st170 faults are quite common place. i have experience these myself.

These are for starters.

Total brake failure. still unresolved.
Alternator problems. still unresolved
Poor running, pulsing and surging. still unresolved
Problems with drivers seat creaking. still unresolved
Scoring on brake discs front and rear. still unresolved
