Ford Dealers.....
Thought you'd like to hear about this one. I'll try and keep it brief.
So, we were looking at cars yesterday afternoon at about 330-4pm.
I wont say which dealer but it's in Melbourne's inner southern suburbs. We primarily wanted to look at the NEW focus, as we are comparing that and the Golf.
So we wander past the showroom, and end up at the second hand car lot at the other end of the site - cant see one anywhere. Teh used car salesman sidles up (looking like he's just butted out his cigarette and is pissed that it's so late on a friday)
Him: Can i help you?
Us: Do you have any of the new focus on site?
Him: Nope.
(Pause)
Us: OOOOO.KKKKKKK (long, slow ok). Do you know when it's coming in?
HIm: Not until late October. (huh - ford said June 1).
Us: Rrriiigghhhtttt. Ok, see you later
Him: I've got plenty of second hand ones to sell you!
Us: No thanks (walk away).
So at this point, we were seriously close to walking straight back to our car and driving away, but thinking this cant be correct, i decided we'd go into the main showroom and ask there (just for interest, or to find out why not until october).
After about 1 minute, the receptionist (who actually said: I know it's soon, but i;m not sure the exact date: ie. honest answer) grabs a salesman, who confims will be mid July, that the cars have landed but there was a delay getting them out to dealers (didnt specify the exact reason), and first deliveries would be early august.
Basically, this salesman then did an fantastic sales job, telling us how he drove one recenty at Ford's dealer launch. I was most impressed with his entusiasm (especially late on a friday afternoon!). He made us feel good about the car we were looking to maybe buy.(Compared with the other idiot who made us walk straight out of the showroom)
But i was thinking afterwards, if we'd just accepted the other guy's answer, we'd be straight off to buy a golf as there's no way we're waiting till october, and the customer service was appalling.
So once again, ford let down by a guy who should have admitted he didnt know the answer, instead of making one up. Re-confirming it's not always the product that sells, but the service.
