Whilst doing a bit of research, I remembered a little something that may well be of interest to some of the focus fans in here.
In certain areas of the United States, they race a category of cars known as Ford Focus Midgets. These 'Midgets' are similar to speedcars as raced out here in Australia. The Focus Midget class was developed to be a feeder class to the unlimited midgets in an attempt to keep costs down somewhat. The main sanctioning body had approached several manufacturers with the aim of using their powerplants however most were uninterested, & those that were did not wish to commit to supplying the engines for the series. All but Ford Motorsports that is.
The Ford Focus Midget class runs a dry sumped Hillborn style mechanical fuel injected version of the 2.0l Zetec motor. These engines are solely supplied from 1 manufacturer & are a sealed unit developing around 180 hp. In the 1090lb (just under 500kg)chassis as you can appreciate they would certainly perform quite admirably.
Tis a shame that motorsports is not nearly as commonplace as it is in the US.
