Re: Greetings to All!

Nothing wrong with a CL! (I own one by the way as well).

Be sure to get some pictures up as well!

There are a few things we need to do to get the Euro Ford Club running better, this area certainly needs addressing.

Welcome and enjoy the forums!

Tim

Re: Greetings to All!

Nothing wrong with a Machine Silver CL... mine would be one if it didn't have Zetec engine, seats, wheel, rims, 3 doors and badges... MTX75 manual gearbox, sports suspension... apart from that mine's a CL underneath!!!! Machine Silver ROCKS!!!!!

Welcome to the club and forums.

Re: Greetings to All!

Nice colour choice!

I didn't realise we had a different gearbox. Don't have a go at me for not knowing ;-), I was just never told, so never suspected. How is it different? Is it different contruction, or just different ratios?

Re: Greetings to All!

Ha ha don't think I have a go at everybody!!! Sorry mate.

The difference in feel for starters is the most obvious, with the MTX75 Zetec box being used also by the Turbo Focus RS over in Europe, as it's a much stronger, smoother and more rugged gearbox. The CL/LX box Tim knows about but it's something like IL18 or something like that I can't remember. It is a bit rougher, still very smooth but doesn't have the same feeling of strength in the gearshift or take up. THe Zetec also gains an upgraded clutch, that gives a FAR stiffer action and feel. No doubt thanks to the massive 10kw of neck snapping extra power.... he he he

Ratios are different, I THINK they're slightly shorter on the Zetec but again it may be the other way round (I have a 50% chance!!). It's not something many salespeople would know, but when you're obsessed with the focus and you can tell somebody things only an enthusiast would know it's amazing how much it can really show people that you are genuinely interested in the car and hence that it must be at least half worth buying!!

Re: Greetings to All!

Just playing with you!

So the RS only has a 5-speed.... interesting. I never drove a CL/LX so I had nothing to compare with.

You are right about it being a good sign if the salesperson has a real interest. I feel better if it seems the guy/gal really seems knowledgable about the car.
