I have a 2003 Focus and am trying to replace the driver's side headlight. First I tried just taking out the bulb, but there is a wire brace that I cannot figure out how to unclip.
So then I figured if I could remove the whole headlight, I could figure out the clip. So I removed the front grill, unscrewed the 3 bolts holding the headlamp on, but there is some clip or something near the lower left part of the lamp that is holding it in place. For the life of me, I cannot see what is holding it down.
Have you also checked this in the comments ? " there is another bolt on the underside of the headlight and to remove it you have to get under the car (at least i had to on my 2004 ford focus wagon) "

Right here my good friend^, get under the car and on the inside of the fender you will find a 8MM bolt, then pull the light out a little bit and disconnect the plug, But that clip that is holding the bulb in is just hooked on a little plastic hook, if you push down a little and move it (IIRC) down.
I will add another write up to our (How-to Directory) on how to remove the headlight of a Ford focus? Or maybe I'll do one on how to take the whole front body apart.
Thanks but I just went underneath again. There is no way to see or access the bottom of the headlight. There is a black box with a hose connecting to it and it totally blocks any view of anything above it. I believe it is a clip holding the bottom left side down (left from facing forward). It can't be this complicated. I saw some other videos where there were clips holding down the light, the light is so close to the side of the car, I can't see beneath and what might be holding it. Thanks again.
Ah you have the Duratec in there, either 2.0l or 2.3l. What your seeing is the air intake pipe going into the snorkel box, and yes it is called a snorkel box because the intake of it is almost all the way up near the driver mirror under the fender. But in that case it would be better to try and change the bulb with it in if you can figure it out, but if you can't, there are screws to be able to move the black box enough to see and get at the bolt.
IIRC> there are two screws attached to the inner tire well fender, if you take just those two out, you should be able to get your hand up there.
If needed I will take a pic, but I removed my black box a long time ago to make room for a cold air intake, so I can just show you where the screw is up there?
Ok, another clue. That sounds exactly like what I am seeing. I can't get back to this until Thursday, but I am looking forward to see if that is it. I have tried to change the bulb without taking out the headlight, but to no avail. It looks like a mousetrap that Ford puts over the bulb itself.
I will let you know Thursday how it turns out. Thanks again for your time.
