confused high speed vibration

Hi...I have a 2006 Ford Focus ZXW SES. I get a vibration in the steering wheel at speeds of 85 km and over. The dealer has checked tires and wheels (they're OK), replaced a motor mount, replaced axle bearings, machined the rotors. The vibration is still there. Any suggestions? Elizabeth63

Re: high speed vibration

If the steering wheel shakes on the highway, then 95% of the time it is tire related. Try rotating the tires from the back to the front and see what happens.

Re: high speed vibration

Totally agree with Johnny, either tyres or you've hit a pothole and damaged a rim. Down here we're having problems with new model Focus when they're fitted from factory with low rolling resistance tyres. The tyres distort when the cars have been sitting in the docks for long periods of time and end up looking like eggs. You can balance them, but they'll always vibrate. Best way to tell is to swap all 4 tyres with ones from a good car.

Re: high speed vibration

you might need your wheels balanced? my last car did the same thing, got the wheels balanced and now it runs smooth even when flat out
