Hot Focus Estate Unveiled
Practicality doesn't mean sacrificing performance – that was the message from Ford as it pulled the wraps off the storming new ST170 estate. The five-door Focus, which goes on sale alongside the ST170 hatch in June, will rival Vauxhall's soon-to-arrive Astra GSi Turbo estate.
That car was unveiled at last September's Frankfurt Motor Show, and the pair are expected to be similarly matched on performance. The Ford will use a 170bhp engine linked to a specially developed six-speed manual gearbox to hit 60mph from a standstill in 7.3 seconds and go on to 134mph. As with the hatchback, it will get 17-inch alloys and low-profile tyres, uprated brakes, firmer suspension and a full bodykit, including a deep front spoiler and chiselled side skirts.
Driver aids include traction control, with an optional ESP stability system. Inside, the car will share the hatch's dash, brushed aluminium facia, drilled sports pedals and metal kickplates. Prices start at £15,995 for the three-door, with the five-door costing £16,395 and the estate £17,195.
