I have this common problem with my 2000 Focus and I'm going to replace my cylinder lock......my question is : has anybody who have had this problem experienced another problem with it where you loose all electrical power to the car for a few seconds?........this is what I'm experiencing right now

Need more info . Is this power / electrical loss whilst you are driving or when you start car ? Take it you are referring to ignition barrel / switch ?

Yes ignition/barrel switch where you can't turn the key and need to tap with a small hammer.....the electrical loss comes when the car is off.....particularly when we hit the power lock button......lose all power and have to reset all our radio stations

From what you add about key jamming and tapping with hammer , sounds like ignition/barrel switch knackered .

regardless, CHANGE THE IGNITION LOCK ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Remove it and turn it with a screw driver if you have to.
It's easy to change now while you can turn the cylinder, you wait till it jams completely....... much more difficult to repair and more costly too.
and can just about guarantee, it will not be at a convient time when it fails!!

Had this happen on my 03 zx3, replaced it with a store bought one, and it happened again 3 months later, so I gave it to Ford cause they said this is a consistant problem with these cars, and $125 later, the problem is gone.

The lock Ford would put in is ten times better then the store bought ones.
