guys this might sound stupid.. but I was wondering... if it would be possible to buy a RS in the UK then ship it here and drive it around on the roads?
is it possible to register the car here?? as something like a low volume sort of thing.. and maybe.. even register it as a Zetec?? would that wor?
and would anyone have any ideas on the cost of shipping it over?
thanx.. its a weird question.. but i just though if thats possible..
it would be worth EVERY DAMN CENT!!!!!!!!! Wouldn't be too expensive, but buy a 1 year old model and then import it over here... have considered just the same thing in a few years time if the Cosworth isn't brought here... if thye produce one, an AWD Turbo
You wouldnt be able to register it as a Zetec as its not a Zetec.
Most likely wouldnt be able to do it, its not hugely different from teh focus we have here bar the Turbo, unlike the EVO VI which had the active Yaw in it so made it through
You have to own the car for 12 months OS and prove that you have owned it, fuel recietps tax receipts etc to be able to bring it over as a personal import otherwise its a bitch to get a car over as a personal import or any import as the car is pretty similar to what we have here
Mate if your gonna import an RS go for a an escort or sierra cos, test drove a couple of RS focuses and they just aren't a patch on the rear or 4wd cossies. The handling on anything other than a silky smooth piece of road is quite terrifying and not in a good way. if you hit a bump at full throttle the RSF will try and go anywhere but in a straight line. IMHO This car isn't as good as a lot of people would have you believe, which is why I guess a decent escort cos will set you back about the same as a near new RSF over here.

Slight difference being it's a Focus and not an Escort... let me explain, it's not so much for the speed coa you'd just gou out and buy and EVO if you wanted that, it's more about the exclusivity and the fact that it's a Front wheel drive that'll pull 0-100 in less than 6 seconds, will kill a WRX round a race track thanks to it's Quaife LSD and is unique. Naturally if you wanted to slaughter everything in the world you'd get a Cossie but remember they're 10 years old now... the Focus you can score at 12 months old which makes a difference, parts are easily available here from standard Foci (obviously excluding a lot of the turbo specific parts).
It is actually illegal to import and Register an RS here as an owned vehicle, it can only be brought out here as a Research/Evaluation vehicle. Because it doesn't differ enough from the current model Focus, only being a FWD and all, same bodyshell, it goes against competition laws which are setup to protect the new car industry. So you'd have to crush it or export it after your 12 months, I know which I'd rather do. Either that or not register it and just have it as a track car... the other way is to import into NZ and find yourself a Kiwi girlfriend with a house and a garage... I believe then after 3 months in UnZud you can then bring it here permanently, although I'm not certain about that bit.
So Either move to the UK, wait until it's 15 years old, or move to NZ. No other way (unless you're obscenely rich and can live with it becoming unroadworthy after 12 months which in my books would be just when you're settling into it!!!).
I still think it's worth to move to NZ, damn if I can move to Melbourne to work for Ford I can move to Auckland to own an RS eh bro... sweet as!!!
