Installing a CD player into a 2001 Focus Zetec, help
Was wondering if anyone can help, I want to install a cd player into my Focus, I have bought the new facia that i require but is there anything else that I shall require?
also can someone tell me how easy it is to do? And if they think i should get a professional to do it or not?

It doesn't look hard (I haven't done it myself though) and so long as you have the facia, a new single DIN unit should fit ok. But be aware that depending on the head unit you get you may loose the functionality of the steering wheel controls (the reason I haven't done it yet). Apparently an alpine CD stacker will work with the stock head unit and hence, steering wheel controls but an adapter is required.

Better clarify on that though, Matt - you kept your head deck and just installed a stacker, this is installing a complete new head unit.
If you haven't done it before, easier to just spend some money getting someone to do it for you. It's pretty simple though, you'll have your remote loom, 4 lots of paired wired from your speakers, constant 12V, ignition, and earth, and then of course the antenna wire.
The quality of the new fascia which you will need to install a single DIN unit will determine how easy the unit is to physically install - nothing worse than a dodgy unsecured head unit.
If you really aren't sure, find someone who has done a million before, or take it to a shop and get them to do it as part of buying the head unit.

Re: Installing a CD player into a 2001 Focus Zetec, help
Hi guys, im new on this forum and its good to c alot of ppl that like the focus as much as i do. My EB falcon was written off last friday (some idiot smashed into my rear and i relayed into the car in front) and now with the cheque coming from the insurance company, my mum is willing to get me a brand new focus (mum is payin coz im still a 19 yr old uni student) especially since they have the SR deal goin. I went to look at some the other nite with my g/f and noticed there were volume controls behind the steering wheel for the stereo. Now i have my complete stereo i took out from the falcon and was wondering were there any adaptor plates for the dash to suit decks thinner than the stock in dash deck?
Also, if i installed my aftermarket deck, would i still have the full function of the controls behind the steering wheel?

Hey Tom Welcome to the forums...
To answer you question... Kinda! I have seen single DIN units with a new faceplate around them...
But they are hard to come by... eg http://www.dlcparts.com/frontend/pro...000026&ID=1717
But i also asked Lifestyle store in Parramatta Sydney whether they could make one up... They said yes but i would cost about $80-100 to do!
Or you could buy the 5 stacker that you see in strathfield car radios all the time to fill the gap!
Best thing to do is find one on ebay overseas and have it shipped here!

To answer your second question, (about the controls behind the steering wheel), I think the answer is no. Another member here (Zetec) has an apline CD stacker with an adapter that allows it to function like the factory stacker and hence still use the steering wheel controls. Otherwise I don't think so, but it has been a while since I checked this out.
Re: Installing a CD player into a 2001 Focus Zetec, help
oh ok. i was looking at the back of the cd player on a webiste the other day and they have some other connectors on the back other than the main one and was thinking that maybe the standard unit had sub woofer and speaker pre-amps and an amp control wire like on my panasonic deck?
Any guys out there know anything about this?
Because if it does, id gladly leave the standard unit in and just hook up my extra bits on that.
