I have a 2001 focus, i originally had the pollen filter cover problem, letting water into the footwell, fixed now i think. However i think it has effected the fans...

When i turn the fans from 1/2/3 etc it blows the fuse, i disconnected the motor, behind the glove box, and it still trips, when you turn it onto the one with the heat symbol. Not sure if this is important as i believe the fans were not previously working on 1/2 anyway.

I was going to buy a new switch to see if this was the problem...? They are not cheap from Ford though! and didnt want to get it if its not the problem.

Any thoughts on this would be great!!

According to the wiring diagram, the power comes from the fuse through the green/orange wire to the motor. The black/red wire goes from it to the resistors and switcn. With the motor unhooked, the switch shouldn't be able to short it out. Which fuse is blowing out, 35 or 58 under the dash, or 64 under the hood? 64 is for the blower motor and the other 2 are for the control.

The fuse that keeps blowing, is under the hood, have just checked the interior ones and they are fine. Is the only power to the blower motor the obvious one that unclips?

The cover should show which one is 64.

The 30amp Fuse 64 goes to the motor only. If the motor is disconnected, there's no connection to the switch. If it blows with the motor disconnected, someone crossed the wires up somewhere.

Sorry for being slow...

Im going to double check the motor is disconnected, which im pretty sure it is. If the fuse still blows, is it possible that there is water in the electrics, i.e cable somewhere between fuse and motor...? which is causing the fuse to blow?

So...it turns out i had disconnected something else, to the right of the motor, a little higher up, rather than the actual motor. I have disconnected the motor and taken this out, put a fuse in and it doesnt blow now. So i guess trying a new motor shoud solve it?
