Hi, I have a 2001 Ford Focus with similar problems. It has a 2.0L Zteck and the check engine light was on I took it thru Connecticut emissions and it failed. I unhooked the negative battery terminal and it reset with no check engine light. Randomly the car approaches a stop light and stalls. I glued a dime on the throttle stop and this seemed to help as I didn't know how to move the screw out farther to increase idle. Now that it is winter I removed the dime as the car doesn't seem to kick down very well with the dime in place. I also noticed that while driveing in cold weather I only get good heat when I am at a stop and at idle. When driving the temp gauge drops way down thus the heat air is not very warm until I pull over and let it idle for awhile. Does anyone have any idea what this is? The car has just under 50k on it and other than this problem it has been a great car as long as road noise don't bother me as the car is not very sound proof. Could someone tell me what part I need to clean and or change? The garage wants $125.00 just to tell me what I need to have done, then it would be an additional $125.00 to go ahead and have it fixed plus what ever the material (parts) are. This seems crazy as I am fairly good with mechanics just don't have the high tech computers to diagnose problems. Thank you all in advance for any help you may have.
