FORD Australia has not ruled out a start for the sizzling Focus RS.
Some British reports claim that the RS (Rallye Sport) is a quicker car than the potent Sierra RS Cosworth of the mid-1980s.
It will be launched in Europe in October and is reported to tackle 0-100km/h in just over six seconds.
With power close to 160kW, the Focus RS will represent a serious challenge to the long-running Subaru Impreza WRX.
The hot hatch will be considered for Australia following Ford's most important launch of the year, the BA Falcon in September.
"We'll buy one and have a look at it," Ford Australia president Geoff Polites said. "I would probably get Tickford to do the Australian Design Rule work on it. Then I would say it could be a case of getting it in in low numbers in the order of 25 cars."
The RS is 25mm lower than the standard Focus and has 18-inch Oz alloy wheels.
