map sensor and automatic transmition

Hello

I got 2001 Focus with automatic transmition 2.0 motor - canadian version.
Few days ago going on the high way I lost overdrive.
I scan the car and it showed that I got trouble with MAP sensor, I speculate that it could be my fault. There is a liitle filter under air filter and when changing air filter I removed it and never replace it. I read somewhere that the oil can cover the MAP sensor. I just cleaned the MAP and going to install it today. I hope it is going to work, if not then I would have to put new MAP, I also got to check all the hoses.
I read somewhere that in some cases the trasmiton will go into something called a safe mode, to let you get home.
Does any body know how it works and how do you reset or turn off that mode?

Thanks

Re: map sensor and automatic transmition

the MAP sensor reads the pressure inside the manifold to adjust combustion, it dosnt have anything to do with the transmission.

Re: map sensor and automatic transmition

He says there's a little filter under the air filter?
Any idea what he's talking about?

And shame on him for not putting one back in.

I know his post is old, but I'm kinda curious.
