Had a problem with my car back firing and ML light coming on took it to the ford dealer then said there was water ingressing into the spark plugs.

They changed all the spark plugs fixed the water ingressing problem and gave it back to me, next day started again phoned them up they said its probably the ignition coil. They just called and told me it is the cat converter and have quoted £1230.80 to supply and fit a new one!!!!!!!!!

That seems like a lot?

Ringing round other garages at the moment for quotes.

Every garage I called round said they could get the part for £790 inc VAT, apparently there are no non-genuine ones for this model.

That's high for sure. I'd phone around to get prices from other shops. I know in California USA, cat converters are generally triple the price due to the greater emissions standards vehicles have to go through. The average price elsewhere for a cat converter is $400-600 US. That's not Focus specific, but if you live in a region where emissions is of a major concern, you will ultimately pay more for it.
