my car is approaching 5000kms and was thinking it might be good to give the oil and filter a change, being new and god knows how long that oil n filter have been in my car.
What oil do ford use in their scheduled services?
I already tried to ask them but they gave a very blatant answer, almost like he didnt wana tell me so they could charge me an extra $100 at my 3000km service. The reason i ask is that i feel its prolly better to use the same oil as ford does when i change it myself.
Also, i tried looking for an oil with the same rating, but cant seem to find it anywhere, so an idea of what you guys out there use for your focis would be good to get an idea of what to look for.
Also, what is the spec on the focus oil filter and where can i get them? Havent had the chance to look at the spec of the current filter nor had the chance to shop around for it.
hmmm.. im pretty sure the cost of the oil and filter are built into the service .. what im sayin is if u change your oil and filter u may get the same quote - no discount like u cant say plz dun charge me for oil and a filter lol .. im no expert but im pretty sure this is the case cheers
nah mate. What i meant was at my 3000km serivce i was going to ask to get them to change the oil n filter, but he said around the $100 dollar mark. Most of the cost would be labour as the oil n filter for them would cost near to nothing.
Ive changed the oil in my mum's, dad's cars and my falcon as well, it aint a big ordeal, and if im going to change the oil n filter between scheduled services, i may as well do it myself, coz its no hassle at all.
As for the scheduled services, the 3000km service is just a check up, no change of fluids wot so ever (hence i asked how much to change the oil n filter), but since scheduled servicing is part of the deal for a valid warranty, i will just have to get them to change the oil every 15000km, but as it recommends in the manual, the 15000km schedule for oil changes is for absolute ideal conditions, and who here doesnt fall into one of those categories which they recommend more frequent oil changes.......
$100 sounds quite excessive. I also had an oil & filter change done at the 3,000Km peace of mind service and they only charged $30.
According to the paperwork from the 30,000Km service done on my st recently the type of oil they use is XT10W30. I think they use the same oil right across the Focus range. I was told by the service department the oil filter on the st is different to the rest of the range.
$100 does sound like a rip, I am not sure what oil is used by the Ford Dealer I go to only that it is Castrol, however in saying that I have been to other Ford Dealers with past Fords and they have used Shell oils......noticed the same thing with Holden when I owned my ute, different dealers used different oils.

so in conclusion, just use a quality oil if you intend on changing it yourself, and when you get your focus serviced next Ford will put in their oil for the dealer you choose....
I will probably change my oil @ 7,000km as its the half way point to the service interval.

I do the same, or at least will from the 7000km after my next service in about 2000km time. I'll experiemnt a little, see what's available. Makes sense coz it protects your engine, keeps wear down when oil's clean, and most importantly keep engine/fuel efficiency up.
We got ours changed at the 3000km inspection.....charged for parts only not labour!!!
I am using the castrol synthetic type R 5w-30 $40-45 for 5 litres in our ST170 with a genuine filter....$5.78 inc gst(funny enough it is the same grade of oil that is in my limited explorer V8).
After a long discussion with my dealer they have no problem with this oil but have strongly suggested the use of the factory filter to ensure warranty security!!
I am changing the oil every 7500km with the dealer doing the sceduled service duties with no problems....

came across to changing the oil n filter today.
$10 for a genuine motocraft filter and thats AFTER a price chop ($13.50 normally). Is my dealer trying to really rip me or something... compared to $5.78.
Came across castrol Formula R 5W-30 which was on special at repco for $40 which seems orite.
No major dramas with the oil n filter change. Just managed to squeeze under the car from the front to reach the filter.
The car feels good now, cant really say it feels better but it sure is nicer to know ur doing some good for the car... But its just constantly in the back of my mind now, did i do it all right........ i prolly have this feeling only coz its a brand new car for me
