Having spent a day or two in Ford service now with my work experience... I have learnt the important things that we all needed to know or were curious about...
The white crap you get along the inside edges of your windscreen may be due to overspray of the black paint from when ur Focus was made. Grab a razor blade and pop it inside a holder, then run the thing up along the edge of your windscreen on the inside, it'll come off like a charm, good as it should have been new... then just use some glass cleaer to polish it up.
On a completely different note, CRUISE CONTROL cannot be fitted to a VDC equipped vehicle, the question I posed a while back and we all thought sounded stupid. According to the predelivery manager who fits it himself, something to do with the front diff getting confused by the readings, or the readings not being accurate for the cruise when VDC is installed. As stupid as it sounds (almost every other cruise control equipped vehicle in the world can take traction and VDC style systems too... namely the Falcons and every other car sold in Australia... why the Focus can't is beyond me, all I know is Cruise isn't very popular in Europe, where you don't need it to save your license unlike here... so they just don't design it in i guess. But it's the honest truth... Guess I'll have to start marketing Zetec's Light-foot Modulator (TM) for highway use.
i'd rather have cruise personally. first thing i do after putting my seatbelt on (that damned beeping is really annoying) is turn off the vdc traction control, i mean its great for going around corners if you enter too fast or whatever....but for off the line it just cuts the revs and makes the car bog down...which sucks...

If trees could scream...would we be so cavalier in cutting them down?
.....maybe.....if they screamed all the time for no good reason.
Yeah very true, but in the end you still have to be having a bit of a go (which admittedly I always am) for it to activate, has a pretty high threshold which is good, just the traction off the straight line as you say which is a bit annoying. In the end, driving so much in Sydney I leave it on, never know what the cars around you will do next. My defensive driving aid anyway. Had justified itself at least twice now too so I reckon it's money well spent. That and the fact I'll go for a rally soon in the forest just to see how it works on dirt/gravel (or how it doesn't).
As for seatbelt beeping, I know it sucks but in the end as long as you wear it, it's 5 annoying beeps, that's all. Not worth spending money on or trying to disconnect, considering it's not easy to disable using that special code of focusfanatics which nobody has succeeded with in Australia yet that I know of.
I don't like the VDC, I turn it off everytime I turn the engine on. Its a matter of regularity now. Put the gear shift in Neutral, crank the engine, push the VDC button in to turn it off, & press the recirculation button on the dash so that the exhaust fumes don't come in the car, then select gear. Funny about the cruise control as I was offered this as an option that was pushed when I bought the car. We even think that all the cruise control equip is already fitted on the ST & they only have to fit the switches to the dash & reprogram the micro to make it work. Very common these days as it is cheaper to fit it on cars in manufacture.
