Hi all
wonder if anyone can help
Ive just changed my battery in the key fob, but it still not working
i can lock the car manually and the car starts no problem
Its a 2004 tdci focus
Ive been looking on the net and i see that i need to reprogram my key after replacing battery
ive done the on/off sequence 4 times but no joy
this is what happens
Key in ignition
position 0 to position 2. 4 times
i get the buing audible noise
i press unlock on the key fob and thats it, thats as far as it goes and still not working
ive read you do it like this
key in ignition
position 0 to position 2. 4 times
audible noise
and the red led near clock should say alluminated for 20 seconds
(mine is NOT staying alluminated its just flashing )
press unlock
and get another audible buing noise
(im not getting this second buing)
Is there anything else i can try
I have only got the 1 key with a remote, and i also have another key with a green/blue symbol on
i have NOT got a key with the red symbol on
or am i going to have to get wet when its raing and use the old fashion door lock manually
thanks in advance
Mark..

Look under the drivers side dashboard.
Under there attached on the right hand side right is a box which should say SIEMENS.
This is the remote control signal box.
Remove the cables attached to it and leave it for approx 1hr.
Go back to the car after an hour and put the cables back in.
Its an easy job and you cant go wrong.
It will work straight away.
Mines been fine and works perfect since
and it worked a treat, there are two plugin connectors which I removed for 1 hour, connected them back up and hey presto !!
Absolutely Brilliant!
My key fob slowly started losing it's strength over the past year until the last two weeks it completely stopped working.
I thought it was the battery in the key fob which I had replaced over two years ago and I replaced again with a Duracell battery! but still no luck.
Then I decided to do a google search for the problem and found these solutions.
First I tried the key in the ignition method but this did not work.
Then I did the above and pulled out the two plugs (green and blue) from the Siemens "CONT.ASY-R/CONT LK & ALAM SYS MN" box and kept it unplugged for about an hour.
I then plugged the connectors back in and lo and behold the remote worked perfectly!
I can now unlock my car using the remote fob from across the road - something which I could not do before!
Thanks
FYI the part no. for the SIEMENS box is 98 AG 15K600 ED Picture attached.
NB. You do not need to remove (unscrew) the SIEMENS box as I did because it's a mission trying to screw it back!
Hi
thanks for this info i will try it tomorow
i did not get any picture attached
maybe you could send picture to ezra.ezra@ntlworld.com
thanks in advance

Hi
would disconecting the battery do the same job ?
if i disconect the battery for 1 hour, would that work same as disconecting the 2 plugs from seimens box
in theory that would still disconect poer from seimens box, os as that box got a back up
just a thought
thanks

" Unpugged the control unit & left in for an hour as recommended. Bingo!!!
I'm not sure why this works, as the battery has been removed at least twice since the problem manifested itself, and I would have thought this would have the same effect. "
well i spent a good hour this morning looking for this box
I cant find it anywere
im looking down the right hand side or the car
under the actual dash, and theres NO seimens box here
my car is a 2004 focus estate tdci
but definatly no box there that has 2 plugs in it
i have a box with 5 plugs going in
and a big silver bow at back of it
is there a chance it could be somewere else
thanks

Currently driving: Focus 2.0 Zetec In essence, all you do is change the GEM module! On the CL, does the module change on the petrol or diesel? I only ask as I notice you have pictured a diesel in your guide due to the Drive-By-Wire throttle.
Even though mine isnt a CL spec, but a 2003 Zetec, mine still has got the separate GEM module, but is much bigger and has 5 plugs going to it! How can I add the alarm functionality to mine?

No, the pre-2001 don't have a GEM, the post 2001 models do. The C/L module is the same on petrol and diesel, and that's all it does - nothing else. Removing this module only stops the C/L working; everything else works fine.
I think you'd need a completely new GEM, and that would need to be programmed to the car (main dealer job), from what I've heard. It's certainly not a cheap part, anyway - I don't know whether it's possible to set the unit to have extra capabilities in software or not; not really looked into the later models in any depth
Another suggested method for resetting ,
"
Ignition on/off (8 times IIRC), until either door locks cycle or the PATS
light starts flashing at a different rate (can't remember what on it is on
the focus), leave ignition on and press any button on the remote. Door locks
should cycle or the PATS light flash again. "
You were asking if it changed on different years and said your couldn't find Siemens box with two connectors . This confirms it changed after 2001 to a GEM module with 5 plugs , which is fitted to your car . Therefore removing two connectors and waiting for an hour wont fix fault as it doesn't apply to your year car . The bottom part of post is another suggested method of resetting remote . Hope this clears matter up for you .
