My Ford Focus -99 is doing something very strange in random I have owned the car for about 3 months and this has happend 3-4 times. My speedometer is going to zero and the thing that shows how far the car has been driven gets blank...anyone know what this is and if it is possible to fix.
As you can see in the attached pictures something is wrong :)
Here are the pics edited - though they are not the greatest quality to start with, we can see whats happening.
I'd be taking it to Ford about it, see what they advise. I realise it won't be under warranty anymore, if they are too costly see an auto electrician. It could be soemthing as simple as a fault/incorrect connection somewhere in the dash, it could be soemthing as bad as the computer not sending the correct info to the dash.
How does it affect the odometer (as in does it changes how many kms/miles the car has done?), or does everything return to normal?
Tim

Thanks for the answer, I suspected that it was a glitch or something my self too, The odometer seems to return to normal, Not easy to see whats the figures are before this happens :) But I will try to monitor this more closley in future malfunctions.
If the odometer is being crazy, jumping up large amount of miles, it could indicate the signal from the computer is the problem. If it is returning to where it should be, then it might just be a bad connection or soemthing. This is not conclusive, but it might give you an idea anyway!
Ford might have had this problem before and know of a quick fix - they'd be my first point of contact.
Good luck with it. Tim

Yeah I'll try to get hold of a technician at my reseller, I'll post my results in this thread later if I get any!
it could be that the previous owner tried to reset or reduce the km's/miles the car had done, but in doing so might have shorted something out?
Just a possibilty esp. if its been doing this since you got it
