Stuck in Park

Hi All,

I am having a 2003 ford focus which is having a problem for couple of weeks.
The gear shifter gets locked in Park position. I need to use the override switch to release the lock every time. I checked the break lights and they are working fine.

The car runs fine and does not have any problem. Does anybody have any idea why this happens and how much it would cost to repair this?

Thanks

Re: Stuck in Park

I think this fault is caused by an actuator in the shifter .

Re: Stuck in Park

Were the brake lights working when it wouldn't come out of park?

Re: Stuck in Park

As Bert suggests , check brake lights as faulty switch can also cause this .

Re: Stuck in Park

This happened to me, it was the faulty switch.
