Traction control

Hi everyone. I just recently bought a 2005 Ford Focus ZX4 SES. I would like to know more about one of the features on this car. It has traction control. I'd like to know exactly what this is and how and when to use it. The car didn't come with an owners manual. I did access the Ford Focus manual on line from Ford Motor Company: Cars, Trucks, SUVs, Hybrids, Parts - Ford but there wasn't anything about traction control in it.
Also the used car dealer that I bought the car from said that if you press the traction control button and the light for it comes on in your dash that actually means that it is off. When you see no light for traction control in your dash that means it is on and it should be on all the time. I am not entirely confident that the salesmans info was accurate.

Re: Traction control

If the light is on that means TC is off. Now if you are driving in snow, mud or some other slick situation, if wheel spin is detected the light should come on with a ding warning you that its doing its job.

Here is an article on TC Traction Control
