Transmission Fluid Change or Not

50k on the 2001 ZX3 and it runs great. Check engine came on and dealer replaced dpfe for free (egr type valve?).
Then he tries to sell me transmission flush and fill.
Says it should be done on these every 30K. $139.95.
I think that's nuts. Level is good, it's clean and still smells sweet.
Shifting is perfect. No leaks.
Owners manual does not give the type identifier for this tranny, but
does say that certain types e.g.FKU2 (fictitious example) should be changed every 30K.
So, does anyone know the type designation of this tranny?
Does anyone know what the actual mileage interval is for Trans flush fill ?

Re: Transmission Fluid Change or Not

Here in Oz the 4spd auto is recommended at 60,000km intervals for a fluid replacement. 30,000km sounds a little early (unless you're talking miles) but even then, if you don't believe him, just ask him to prove it in writing from Ford.

Re: Transmission Fluid Change or Not

yeah, get it flushed because your 20k miles over your due date, unless it has been replaced before, which i doubt.

every 30k miles is the correct interval

Isn't that strange? I purchased a 2003 focus wagon, new, I was told when I bought it and each year since that the transmission did NOT have to be serviced till 100,000 miles. AND, 116,000 miles now, and tranny may be shot, still waiting to hear.

My first and LAST Ford!

Re: Transmission Fluid Change or Not

Thanks Shark, just what I was lookin' for. I remember the salesman telling me 100k miles for tranny service but I couldn't find anything in the owners manual that was comprehendible.

Re: Transmission Fluid Change or Not

Well, I am not sure. I had my automatic transmission changed around 50,000 miles in my 02 Focus ZX5 by someone other than my local dealership. Now I had to leave my car at the dealership due to problems with my transmission not shifting into fourth gear. I am waiting to hear back about what the problem is with my car.

I think that having my automatic transmission fluid changed might be the cause of my current transmission problems. Can anyone give me any ideas about what happened?
