For those of you in the process or planning on bolting on a turbo, can i get some idea as to how much this does/will cost? and what sorta gains your expecting? just out of interest. anyone thought about supercharging? i've seen on the capa website they now have kits for the 2.0 zetec....im gonna start saving i reckon....thoughts?

Toms kit www.focus-power.com is around 6.5k "xe.com" or 6k if you ask him to knock 300US so as you can buy your own chip here. It's said to produce 230-250 whp @ 8-10 psi. I'll be getting mine in about 6 to 8 weeks. I would go turbo over an SC. If you want to talk to me about this, I have PM'd you with details.

I'll give you an idea of the pros and cons I found with the S/C on my XR8.

Pros:
Power delivery is progressive, which would be great for a front wheel drive car.
No need to change headers or exhaust (although it does benefit greatly from a free flow system).
Lower underbonnet temperatures than Turbo kits.

Cons:
Loss of power at low rpm due to being driven off the crank.
Depending on s/c, can be a little noisey.
Increase cost due to higher tyre use.

If I had to pick one over the other, I'd probably lean towards the turbo kit, mainly because I've yet to read about anyone who has a s/c on the Zetec here or overseas. Better the devil you sorta know. :s5

Not sure I'd be getting him to do my turbo

A couple of friends have superchargers on their GT and AU XR8, and the kits are very good for torque, with massive increases for a boost of about 8-12psi, but the horsepower isn't as high as a turbo kit would have provided (well, some speculation and competitors dyno charts included). Both cars run the CAPA supplied Vortech supercharger kits, which was enough to rip the GT's auto box apart with the torque.

I know the GT owner sometimes wishes he went for the turbo kit, not that his newly six speeded monster is anything to cough at. So I am not sure which way I would swing - I'm leaning towards turbo if I have the money to blow later in the year. I hope to see how Resty's car responds and follow his route should he be happy with it, albeit a year behind!

For info on Turbo'd Zetecs try theRS Owners Club Forums. Im fairly sure there's quite a few Zetecs with turbos on there, although you have to register to view the forums.

Grunter i'd say you haven't done much research into the S/C on Zetec engines, there are many many Zetec owners over in the States who use these applications as well as here in the UK.

Whether you want to choose over a S/C or Turbo will depend ultimately on your power requirements and how large your bank balance is. LOL

Totally agree with above statement. At the end of the day "How fast to you wanna spend?" applies.

Kymera bro, I know you wanna save for a kit, but have a think about maintanence, repairs, servicing, insurance, engi cert (if needed), bottom end build up, initial installation costs, mileage, warranty...etc. Theres a plethera of things to consider as I did. So far I've spent over 8k on the Avon Lady. Don't hurt your pocket.
