Re: Tyre purchasing - New tyres for the Zetec after 45,000km
Well, I am getting the Michelin Pilot Preceda 205 50R16's fitted on Friday morning, New Year's present for my baby, $220 each including everything and couldn't be happier, will report after the drive down how they go!! Yee Haa!!!
Re: Tyre purchasing - New tyres for the Zetec after 45,000km
UPDATE - Had them fitted on Friday morning by Don Cornell Tyrepower on Stoney Creek Road just near Bexley, they were very professional, took me for a test drive in the car and explained everything, had the wheels re-aligned and they charged an even $900 for fitting, balancing and wheel alignment. I HIGHLY recommend these guys, already recommended to me by Lincoln. Give them a call if you ever need tyres, tell them you're from the European Ford Owners Club and that Lincoln and Matthew recommended you. Brendan is the guy to speak to, very helpful.
As for the tyres, I couldn't be happier (unless perhaps I had a set of racing slicks...) with their performance, they look great, stylish and they handle brilliantly. I am yet to put som hard k's on them, have only driven home basically, but a few roundabouts with some flat accellerator have pointed the nose in sharper. Where the NCT's used to let go in the front and allow a little understeer, the Michies if anything seem to be a little more biased towards letting the back end go. That may be due to my difference in tread on the old set, but I will update on their overall feel in both dry, wet, highway and wear as th kilometres roll by. I'm happy as a pig in the proverbial, or as a driving enthusiast in a Focus, which in my books doesn't get much better!!!!!
Re: Tyre purchasing - New tyres for the Zetec after 45,000km
Well so far after 1,000km of highway, the tyres have proven super-quiet, super comfortable and handle fantastic in the dry. I am highly impressed with their dry performance.
I am yet to truly experience some proper wet weather to test them out, but a combination of greasy roads and as-yet un-worn in tyres saw me 4 wheel drifting this morning, gave me quite a shock as I chucked her into a corner or two. I will have to evaluate their performance in the wet as they wear in, but hopefully things improve!!!!!!!
One thing I can say, understeer is gone both dry and wet now, I'm a BIG fan!!! She's now a neutral to tail happy Focus, just the way it should be.
